JEANSWEAR

Spring / Summer 2012

For the 2012 spring / summer season, Pierre Cardin places the emphasis in the jeans section on high-grade materials, such as the coveted pima cotton as well as two-ply qualities with exceptional durability and form stability. On these materials, patterns and colours appear extraordinarily bright. Manufacturing with pigment dyes and as double dyes will remain important for the upcoming season, even though washes will be slightly less rich in contrast. The new look generally comes across as a bit more refined and cleaner.

The new summer looks include chinos and cargos in up-to-date shades of blue and in Florida colours, with a special “Old Sun Bleach”-garment-dye. Altogether a totally new, casual look, paired with a similar fit: the new casual foot width has been increased to 41 cm. Weight has become an important criterion, for denims as well as for flats – from 7.5 oz to 9.5 oz for denims, and from 280 g to 320 g for flats. Colour themes for neutral cool grey range from light to medium and white, with aqua and royal to azure for blue nuances. Flamingo and Sundry Yellow express the Florida theme, while the Sand theme is dominated by nuances of beige.

SHAPES & FITS

5-pocket-style: Here the tried-and-true shapes Dijon (Comfort Fit) and Deauville (Regular Fit) are continued. The third shape, Lyon (Shaped Fit), has undergone a complete makeover and now features a foot-width of 41 cm and a markedly slimmer look.

Chinos: For chinos, the successful Toulouse-line will be enhanced by new items in a variety of dyeing techniques. A special highlight is created by garment-dyed two-ply gabardine, with a navy stripe printed on the reverse.

COLLECTION HIGHLIGHTS:

Deck Pant The unique Deck pant by Pierre Cardin Jeanswear is a totally new edition of a vintage chino that was worn by US-Navy sailors on board of their ships. Warp and weft of this fabric have been dyed by using two different dyeing processes (“rope dye” and “cheese dye”). This creates the chino material’s three-dimensional look; in order to perfect it, it needs to be stonewashed for three full hours. As a reminder of its origin, the Deck Pant is finished with anchor-buttons and an old nameplate, and is delivered in a pouch reminiscent of a duffle bag.

Salt Water Denim: This very special item in our denim collection revives the spirit of the old gold diggers. As the name implies, the authentic look Raw Denim is washed exclusively in real salt water. This “breaks” the denim’s fibres, making the garment exceptionally soft (without forcing its owner to wear it in a bathtub!) Special copper rivets and buttons act as reminders of the great Gold Rush – and of the onset of the old blue jeans’ triumphant success. Each Salt Water Denim by Pierre Cardin has an organic leather tag with hand-tooled limited number, turning it into a distinctive, unique item.

Pima Cotton Denim: Pima Cotton denim is made exclusively made of the very best cotton qualities. In addition to black and bleached versions, the 2012 spring / summer season will present two new Dark Indigo dyes. The specific characteristics of this segment are combed top- grade yarns and mercerisation, resulting in a markedly refined look.

Selvedge Look Denim: The extremely popular 3170 with its unique, red-selvedge-based look is now on offer in a new lightweight denim, in a light and a dark version. Also new is the Paper- Touch-Canvas in the already-familiar selvedge-shape, with extremely attractive contrast stitching. The casual jeans look is offered in five colours.

Blue Vintage: This stand-alone programme is a reminiscence of the blue jeans classics, addressing mainly young, authentic denim customers. It has been developed continuously, and is now firmly established in the jeans trade. In close cooperation with Candiani and Martelli in Italy, two new denims have been created: Dark Vintage Slim, Moonfield Blue, Ivy Dress Indigo, Rugged Chino Denim and Snow Selvedge.

1922 Pierre Cardin: The line 1922 Pierre Cardin will be launched in the spring / summer of 2012 – to honour the French fashion designer and entrepreneur, who was born in 1922. The collection line’s focus is on a hand-made denim five-pocket with jacquard pocket lining, dyed with genuine indigo. The denim used is manufactured in Italy - this, too, is a bow to the great designer – and is available in Heritage Blue and in Painter Stripe Indigo. This five-pocket jeans is made inimitable by its hand-stamped bison leather tag.

KNITWEAR / SHIRTS

Fashionably elegant, but without ever losing any of its casualness. Simply smart. An idea that also resurfaces in the collections for spring / summer 2012, and that places the Smart Casual Look that is so typical for Pierre Cardin at the centre of attention. An interesting development is going on: Step by step, the level of fashion awareness is rising. The quest for the extraordinary, for the right measure of individuality, is palpable. The new collections innovatively play with colours and with shapes, perfectly blending their mix of formality, casualness and sportivity – also discernible in their new imagery.

COLOURS AND TRENDS
As in the years before, colours are this season’s dominant theme. Exotic Trip

Warm natural shades such as Sand, Dune and Basket, as well as nuances of green, from khaki to Offroad, in combination with denim colours and a vibrant orange.
Styling: Chinos in combination with new jeans shirts, and jeans paired with safari-style polos and shirts. Very important this season: clean, stylish accessories.

Summer Jam

Strong summer colours, ranging from Beach to Electric Blue to Fresh, Lemon and Melon set the mood for summer. In combination with neutral white these colours are even more brilliant. Fade- out effects underline this theme’s casualness.

Seaside Season

Spring / Summer 2012

Seaside Season is a totally new interpretation of the classic Navy styles. Clear shades of blue prevail, and are combined with white, Pepper and navy. Instead of on classic maritime elements, this collection focuses on styling: for spring / summer 2012 this will be clean, stylish and preppy.

City Club

The range of colours chosen for the “City Club” theme is calm and relaxed. It includes a great variety of natural shades, and bright aqua in connection with off-white and Cloud.
The look is Smart Casual – so typical for Pierre Cardin.

URBAN DRESSCODE

Stylish city life – the “Urban Dress Code” has always been one of Pierre Cardin’s very own themes. But here the code is not “casual”, but still fashionably elegant – simply “smart”. The most significant influence here is a playful treatment of Formal Wear elements. Club shirts are combined with cardigans and gilets made of Luxury Cotton, underlining the personal quest for more individuality. A new element is introduced by mercerised polos in a preppy look, representing relaxed luxury. Characteristics for this style are variations of form, such as button-down and shark- shape collars.

POLOS

Spring / Summer 2012

The season’s new key items are smart polos with new collar solutions and many carefully crafted details. Shirt fabrics such as Oxford, mini-checks and Fineliner are frequently used. Centre stage is given to Mix & Match, ingeniously pairing fashion classics with casual wear. For this, collars are lined or backed with various materials; button panels and flaps show a range of sizes and shapes. Selected accessories, such as classy buttons and applicated ribbons underline this new polo trend, as do contrast stitching and AMF-seams. In addition to the pima cotton segment with solids, modified styles and new stripes, the casual segment also features sportive, authentic Smartcut piqué polos. They are the fashion ambassadors for our “Summer Jam” theme – fresh and colourful, with fade-out effects.

SWEAT

For sweatshirts, too, careful and elaborate details dominate this season’s selection. The materials used are cleaner, more natural. In addition to facings, applications and piping, valuable embroidery adds a whole new tonality. An important topic is new shapes, starting with stand-up collar button all the way to double collars, knit to fit. Sportive jackets are indispensable, with striking accessories setting exciting accents.

KNITWEAR

During the upcoming season, knitwear will convince with new structures and patterns in the Premium Cotton segment, and will introduce new, elegant looks in the Luxury Cotton 14GG segment. Cardigans will continue to be favourites – they are indispensable to the collection. New details such as double collars, button panels and flaps with facing are eye-catchers. Colours contrast will be subtler in the future; if used at all, elbow patches will be tone-on-tone.

SHIRTS

Spring / Summer 2012

Smart Casual: The buzzwords are uncomplicated, casual and groomed. These shirts are characterised by colourful patterns. Structured solids with elaborately fashioned details complement the segment. Parting seams and concealed ribbon applications offer a perfect alternative to prints and embroidery. These styles are available as Regular or Smart Cuts.

Vintage Classics: This theme is characterised by classic shirt patterns, as solids, stripes and mini checks, lavishly embroidered and printed. Underbutton, Minikent and sleeve patches underline this young look. Softwash-finish creates a highly desirable vintage character, turning each shirt into a long-term favourite. This style is available as a fashionable Smart Cut.

Club: This style is totally dominated by the “Urban Dress Code”. It is subdivided into the themes “Editorial Basics”, French Heritage” and “St. Tropez”, all of them turning the familiar business shirt into a fashionable all-rounder. This segment sets exciting accents, and goes well with suits, chinos and jeans. High collar solutions on double neckbands, inventive button and contrast variations, tone-on-tone sleeve patches and colour-coordinated dress handkerchiefs create highlights. All styles of the themes are available as Smart Cuts.

In addition to familiar stretch qualities, the Slim Fit segment focuses on a totally new type of 100%- cotton material – Mechanical Stretch / Compact Yarn – non-iron, too. Pure cotton and at the same time elastic, a classy finish and optimal care characteristics, combined with a young, slim cut. A perfect shirt for a youthful cosmopolitan lifestyle.
